WinZip Tutorial (Unzipping)

What Is A Zip File, Anyhow? Zip files are "archives" used for distributing and storing files. Zip files contain one or more files. Usually the files "archived" in a Zip are compressed to save space. Zip files make it easy to group files and make transporting and copying these files faster. Zip files save time and space, and make downloading software and transferring e-mail attachments faster. WinZip is a program that allows you to unzip files or folders that have been zipped up. It also allows you to zip a file or folder. The WinZip program has two modes to use. One is the Wizard and the other is the Classic.

1) First off we are going to make a folder on our desktop and name it class project. This is so we can save our zip file inside that folder and unzip it in there so all the files zipped up will be unzipped in one place. Now LEFT click on this zip icon.
Winzip File
A screen will pop up looking like the one below. Make sure you have a dot in the Save this file to disk, and then left click OK.

2) Now a screen will pop like the picture below. In the Save in: box make sure you have desktop showing there. If you do not have Desktop showing there, go and left click on the carrot at the end and a drop down box will appear. Browse for Desktop. Once you have desktop in the save in: box look for the class project folder we made and left click on it to open it.

3) Now a screen that looks like the one below will pop up. In the Save in: box it should show a folder that is opened with the name class project. All you do now is left click on Save. The zip file is now saved to the class project folder which is on your desktop. Go look and see if it is there.

4) I will continue this tutorial on WinZip in the WinZip Wizard Mode. We are going to unzip this file we just downloaded. Go to your desktop, find your class project folder, open it and double left click on the testingwinzip.zip file in there.

So, if your screen looks like the one on the right, go up to the right hand corner and left click on the wizard icon to get a screen that looks like the one on the left.

5) After you get this screen up, go and left click on Next.

6) A screen may pop up asking you if you want to add this file to your favorite zip folder. Left click NO, we do not want to add it to our favorite zip folder.

7) The Select Activity screen will now pop up. What we want to do is unzip or install from an existing Zip file, so put the dot in that circle. Now go down and left click on Next.

8) A screen will pop up and it will say WinZip Wizard Unzip at the top. Follow the number steps in the picture below. #1) left click Select different folder. #2) Make sure you browse to Desktop and it shows under Folders and disk drives. #3) look down till you see class project folder and left click on it to open it. It should now show C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\class project in the Select Folder box. #4) Left click OK. #5) Left click on Unzip Now.

9) Now you will have a screen the pops up that says The unzip operation is completed, just like the one below. Your class project folder will pop up showing you the unzipped file. Now to finish, left click on Close. We now know how to unzip a file. Open the folder and left click on the note to student.txt file and read my note I wrote to you.
