"What Is The DeskTop?"
Your DESKTOP is merely the background on which Windows shows you its contents. The pictures on the background are called ICONS and they represent things inside your computer. See picture below of what a desktop may look like.
On the bottom of the desktop there is a gray strip called the TASKBAR. On the left end of the taskbar is the START BUTTON. On the right side of the taskbar is the SYSTEM TRAY.
From time to time, buttons appear in the middle of the taskbar. Each button that appears here represents a WINDOW or PROGRAM you have floating open on the desktop. Or it could represent a program you've put away or minimized.
